The re-design a friend of mine, the lovely elva_undine , did on her page recently inspired me to finally finish off my work on this one. It's not perfect, by any means, but I wanted it to blend a little more with my new site, even if confined by blogger and my less than stellar CSS skills.

The analysis of and reading for The Brewery of Eggshells commentary is taking longer than I thought. Although I didn't expect it to be open and shut--folklore never is, you know--I most certainly didn't expect the wealth (and length thereof!) papers I stumbled upon. Origins

The earliest known writing of The Ballad of Hua Mulan was recorded in Guijin yuelu, by Zhi Jiang c. 568 A.D. The earliest extant version of the work, however, comes to us from Guo Maoqian twelfth-century compilation, Yuefu shiji or Collection of Music-Bureau Poems, as the former has been lost to time[Lan, 2003, p.231].
